Restorations

Factory-trained personnel! The tradition continues. Paul Gockel and Charlie Amey are shown here replacing the sheer plank on the late Bruce Clarke's Dis-Pro Hawkestone, (#3383) during the spring of 1980. This was the Uncle Sam dippy that eventually made a successful trip up the Mackenzie River, into the Arctic Ocean, and did a u-turn and came back in one piece. Mr. Clarke had re-enacted a trip undertaken in 1922 as a dis-pro promotional stunt. Hawkestone continues to reside in Port Carling, Ontario.

Charlie Amey, at 99, is the oldest living original D.P. factory employee, also still living in his home in Port Carling. Boat, engine and device for Hawkestone restored by Paul Gockel, 1980. The above 2 photos are credited to the late Bruce Clarke.

Being in the restoration business for nearly 25 years, the Dis-Pro boat evolved into my specialty. Having restored more than 60 Dis-Pro boats since 1968, many have won first prize at boat shows; others have successfully accomplished trips to the Arctic Circle and back! Competent workmanship is assured with a sensitivity for historical accuracy.
